Rescued Horses

On June 14th, 2008 the “Godmothers” of “SILENT VOICES EQUINE RESCUE” came into our lives.

Betts Simon (aka “Betty”) funded a project of immense proportion by donating the money to purchase a herd of twenty registered American Paint Mares along with five of their fillies who were scheduled to be shipped to slaughter across the border on July 1st, 2008.

Skip and Tami Kammer and Doro Lohmann began nurturing them back to health at the Kammer residence and the next four months became an intense and magical experience. None of the mares or fillies had been handled and their needs were many.

Doro led the training process and the mares created a partnership without the implementation of fear or dominance. Along with Skip and Tami’s daily care and love and the help of several volunteers they slowly learned to trust and to enjoy humans.

Betts, Skip, Tami and Doro took these noble horses into their lives and hearts and guided them towards a better place in our world. Most of them found loving homes before winter arrived.

We greatly miss Rosie, Betty and Peaches who we were not able to save.

And we greatly welcome five babies born in the spring of 2009 into their new families.

It has been a privilege and honor to be a part of their sisterhood and we are grateful to still have them on this earth…
