Rescued Horses

On June 14th, 2008 a substantial donation launched a project of immense proportion that became the inspiration to the creation SILENT VOICES RESCUE. A herd of twenty registered American Paint Brood Mares, along with five of their fillies, were scheduled to be shipped to slaughter across the border on July 1st, 2008 and instead were purchased by Skip and Tami Kammer, Betts Simon and Doro Lohmann.

The following four months became an intense and magical experience nurturing the horses back to health and training them, so they could be placed into new homes before winter arrived.
None of the mares or fillies had been handled and their needs were many.

As a professional trainer Doro led the training process, providing the mares with a solid foundation based on her unique training methods. Along with Skip and Tami’s daily care and love and the help of several volunteers the horses slowly learned to trust and enjoy humans.

Everyone did find a loving home and a protected future where they are still thriving.

It has been a privilege and honor to be able to provide for them and we are grateful for the many wonderful people who stepped in to support this project in many ways.
